About Mental Health Treatment
What is a therapist?
A therapist utilizes talking and behavioral strategies to help people with emotional and psychological distress. We provide guidance, directive cognitive interventions and behavioral change strategies to improve functional behaviors and emotions in people and provide support. Therapists may be trained in psychotherapy through several degree paths such as Masters in Social Work, Counseling Degrees or Psychology Degrees.
What is a therapy session like?
Most therapy sessions are around 45-60 minutes. Clients and their therapists establish trust, mutual goals and discuss techniques to bring about change and improve their mood and functioning. The frequency of therapy sessions depends on each individual's needs.
How can therapy help me?
Therapy has been shown to help people with a variety of diagnoses and symptoms. It can improve mood, relieve anxiety, help families function better as a unit, improve work and school performance.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Therapy is confidential. We adhere to the HIPAA guideline for management and treatment. Collaboration of care with other mental health providers, primary care providers, work and school are options to improve care and support but we will obtain your written consent and discussion if this is indicated from you.
Can you give me medicine?
We do not provide medication evaluations, but will help assist in referring you to a provider who can provide psychotropic medications if indicated such as a child psychiatrist, adult psychiatrist, or your primary care provider. We will continue to collaborate and communicate with your prescribing physician through all stages of treatment if you so desire.
